- Contributions to the Cooperative Sector: Operating in the Ammundi region of the Vellore district, Ramaswamy brought together thousands of smallholder sugarcane farmers to construct a massive, community-owned sugar processing mill. He structured a successful equity model where farmers contributed a small portion of their cane harvest value as share capital. This model successfully broke the monopoly of private sugar barons in northern Tamil Nadu, ensured fair sugarcane pricing based on exact sucrose content, and funded the construction of local schools and irrigation canals using mill profits.
- Awards and Recognitions: Awarded the Sahakarita Shiromani Regional Leadership Award in 1996 for his outstanding lifelong service to the agro-cooperative sector.
