Shankarrao Mohite-Patil was a pioneer of the cooperative agro-industrial movement in Western Maharashtra. He transformed the drought-stricken, barren taluka of Malshiras (Akluj, Solapur district) into a prosperous industrial hub by building farmer-owned cooperative sugar factories, spinning mills, dairy processing plants, and water-supply federations.
