Kerala Delegation Studies Banas Dairy Cooperative Model in Gujarat

Palanpur, Gujarat: A six-member delegation from Kerala, led by Dairy Development, Milk Cooperatives and Animal Husbandry Minister Bindhu Krishna, visited Banas Dairy in Palanpur, Gujarat, to study its cooperative dairy model and explore practices that could be adapted for Kerala.

During the visit, the delegation toured the Badarpura facilities and examined various aspects of dairy operations, including milk collection, processing, product diversification and manufacturing.

Minister Bindhu Krishna described the Banas Dairy model as an “excellent and replicable model”, noting that Kerala would examine the practices adopted by the cooperative and assess their suitability for implementation within the state.

The delegation also reviewed the mechanisms connecting milk producers with organised markets, along with aspects of cooperative administration, farmer participation and distribution systems.

The visit provided the Kerala team with an opportunity to understand how a large-scale cooperative dairy network can integrate farmers, collection systems, processing facilities and markets into a coordinated value chain.

The study visit forms part of Kerala’s efforts to strengthen its dairy infrastructure and milk cooperative sector, with a focus on improving services for milk producers and expanding the capacity of cooperative institutions.
